It's important to be mindful about every single thing we put in our bodies. As a cookie-addict, I often think that one or two or three won't really matter but that's a lie! Everything counts! One of the reasons I love My Fitness Pal is because it makes me be accountable for every single mouthful. If I eat it, I log it. And as someone wise once said: "You don't lie to the phone!" Once I start lying to the program, cheating on it or just omitting some dirty details, it won't work anymore and so I am truthful.
In doing this.. writing everything down thing, I am shocked to think back to all of the mindless snacking I used to do. I think that was my biggest problem. I can generally eat rather healthy meals but it's all the in between that kills me. The "evil in between".. handfuls of candies, random cookies, chips, things grabbed in passing.. things that seem so insignificant at the time but still contain calories.. and the worst kind: the dangerous sugar kinds!
As I wrote about previously, it's all about planning and preparing for hunger and cravings etc. Keeping a fridge filled with fresh fruits and vegetables is a brilliant way to curb cravings.
I love this poster because it yet again shows just how messed up our ideas about food can be. True, I don't often crave grapefruit but to think I could eat all of that healthy stuff or one Snickers.. a chocolate "treat" that will make me feel a sugar rush and then guilty and chubby for the rest of the day.. well it's a no-brainer.
